FRYS.COM OPEN AND ECOAID PARTNER TO CREATE CARBON NEUTRAL TOURNAMENT
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Frys.com Open tournament director Scott Reid announced today a new partnership with EcoAid, an Arizona-based sustainability and carbon offset company, to make the 2009 Frys.com Open a completely carbon neutral and eco-friendly event. The Frys.com Open, an official PGA TOUR event to be played Oct. 21-25 at Grayhawk Golf Club, will have a completely neutral carbon footprint by supporting environmental projects that reduce carbon emissions such as solar and wind power, gas capture and reforestation.Additionally, the Frys.com Open will promote sustainability through “reduce, reuse and recycle” programs and showcase many ways for players and fans to be more aware of their impact on the environment. Sustainability, a key objective in green living, focuses on the reduction of future environmental footprints, and takes the extra step, after carbon offsetting, to further reduce ones “footprint” on the planet.“We are very pleased to be teaming up with EcoAid to make the Frys.com Open a carbon neutral and eco-friendly golf event,” Reid said. “Key leaders have expressed a desire to make
Phoenix the nation’s first carbon neutral city, so I feel that ‘greening’ this event is extremely fitting.”
Along with being carbon neutral, the Frys.com Open will look into the use of solar generators for power; soy-based inks and recycled paper for tickets and other printer materials; recycled cutlery, plates and napkins at the refreshment stands; organic dry cleaning services for the players; carbon neutral transportation services and more.“EcoAid is excited to be working with the Frys.com Open to help lower the environmental impact of this event while also showcasing the commitment to protect Arizona’s Sonoran Desert, one of the most unique ecological systems in the world,” said Brendan Cook, Sustainability Director for EcoAid. “We hope that this partnership will encourage other civic and business leaders to follow suit,” added Baron Bruno, EcoAid Business Development Director. For more information on how the Frys.com Open is going “green” or how to become an integral part of the tournament’s green initiative, contact Baron Bruno at (480) 703-1263 or bbruno@ecoaidnow.com.The Frys.com Open is part of the PGA TOUR’s Fall Series and will feature a full-field (132 players), four-day tournament with a $5 million purse and $900,000 payout to the winner. The Frys.com Open will be played Oct. 21-25, 2009, at Grayhawk Golf Club’s Raptor Course, and the tournament will be televised all four days on The Golf Channel.
